Lee Min Ho and Mun Ka Young are reportedly in talks to star together in the upcoming romance sageuk Scent of the Night (working title). On December 8, Korean media outlets reported that the two actors had been cast as the leads. Shortly afterward, both agencies clarified that the project is among several offers under consideration and nothing has been finalized.

The drama is based on a popular webtoon and is set in the Joseon era, depicting an intense, sorrowful, and provocative love story set against a backdrop of heavy social constraints placed on women. The narrative centers on Seo Hong, a woman who refuses to comply with the restrictive expectations imposed on her, and Seo Jae Ha, a man who loves her but is forced to suppress his true desires and surrender to his fate.

Lee Min Ho has reportedly been offered the role of Seo Jae Ha, the son of a butcher whose once-harmonious upbringing collapses following the death of his father. He later assumes a new identity as the son of Seo Dong Won, the wealthiest man in Hanyang, but struggles under the burden of emotional conflict, particularly involving his sister, Seo Hong.

Mun Ka Young is said to be in negotiations to play the role of Seo Hong, who defies societal rules in pursuit of her autonomy and passion. Should she accept, the project would mark a significant shift into a darker, more provocative genre for the actress.

For Lee Min Ho, the potential drama comes at a crucial moment. 2025 proved to be a turbulent year after his high-budget drama When the Stars became mired in low ratings, overshadowing its budget. Meanwhile, the anticipated film adaptation of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint: the prophet fell short of expectations at the box office, giving rise to concerns about project selection and industry strategy surrounding the actor.

Mun Ka Young, in contrast, enjoyed a strong year with notable screen presence. She starred opposite Lee Jong Suk in the legal drama Law and the city that generated buzz for their chemistry and also appeared alongside Choi Hyun Wook in the rom-com My dearest nemesis.

Looking ahead, Mun Ka Young is set to appear in an upcoming romance drama opposite Choi Woo Shik, a pairing already drawing strong anticipation. She is also preparing for a new film project with actor Koo Kyo Hwan, signaling an ambitious expansion into more diverse and challenging roles across both film and television.

With both actors at pivotal points in their careers—Lee Min Ho seeking a comeback and Mun Ka Young continuing her upward trajectory—the possibility of their collaboration in “Scent of the Night” has sparked widespread interest within the industry and among global fans. Further details regarding production schedules and distribution platforms are expected to be announced in the coming months.
